Give Yourself Permission To Get Obsessed

A reminder that stepping away from the screen to chase a passion isn’t a distraction, but often the fastest way back to clarity, energy, and better leadership.

“Get your hands dirty. Drop the screens and get out in your garage or your little room. Get obsessed. Get obsessed with something. Get passionate. We all want to share in what you might create.” - Jack White, White Stripes Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

This quote has inspired me over the last week as I’ve met founders, builders and people looking for their next role. They all have an idea they are passionate about and are running towards at full speed. Many of us without all the details worked out but a spark of an idea we aren’t going to let go of. We spend the majority of our work life in front of a screen. Take this extended holiday weekend as a rare opportunity to step away. Find something to get obsessed with.

Good leaders know when to take a break. Give yourself permission this weekend. I promise you’ll return to your daily grind with a new perspective or some of your own inspiration to bring back to your team. Whether you’re frustrated about interviewing, changes at your job or nervous about that big presentation next week. Leave it behind and take the next few days to chase a passion!
