Q1 brought a variety of challenges across teams from automating value-based billing workflows to coaching individuals on AI to helping a skeptical team kick off their first sprint. Here's a look at the work and what it taught me. · Read more →

How Outside Perspective Helped Teams Get Further, Faster in 2026

As I wrap up Q1 and reflect on my work, I’m seeing the impact I’m having on teams. I’ve worked with individuals, small groups, and growing organizations to help them learn new skills, fully utilize existing tool licenses and accelerate their AI adoption. Not a bad start to 2026.

At a high level, here are some of the highlights from the year so far:

  • Provided one-on-one AI coaching for individuals and teams.
  • Provided strategy for Microsoft 365 Copilot enablement and systems configuration for a growing small business.
  • Developed a migration approach to move from Dropbox to SharePoint to help with Microsoft 365 Copilot enablement.
  • Automated work logs in Jira to move a team to AI value-based pricing.
  • Led licensing, configuration, and rollout of Enterprise Claude and Claude Code licenses.
  • Developed Jira workflow configurations to remove friction, reduce statuses, and automate updates.
  • Enabled a team to use Jira for scrum-based project delivery.
  • Created a plan for a Jira migration to separate into two separate cloud environments.
  • Helped an independent diabetes care and education dietitian speed up and optimize their website.

Ok. That last one was for my wife and I didn’t get paid. But it was still fun and was nice to be able to have the flexibility to help.

There are a few that stand out that showcase the impact I’ve had this year.

Jira Work Log Automation

I helped a team set up for value-based billing by utilizing Jira’s built-in automation capabilities to essentially remove the need to log time for key roles while preserving reporting capabilities across the system. It required diving deep into Jira’s automation features and developing a clear understanding of its gaps. Turns out, Jira won’t let you log time for another person through automation or the API. Thankfully, the client uses Tempo Timesheets which offers a robust work log API. By combining Jira’s automation, Jira’s API and Tempo’s API, I was able to simplify a time logging and invoicing process to remove the friction of daily time entry and fit their existing process to fill in timesheets. The team got time back for a mundane task and shifted to a time review system for operational roles.

AI Coaching

One of my favorite things in my career is one-on-one coaching. I love having the opportunity to do mentorship work alongside direct technical advisory to help people learn how to make AI work for them. It really allows me to use my background in operations and technology alongside my passion for mentorship. I’ve helped with the basics on prompting, using the tools daily, and developing strategies to have AI fill personal skill gaps. The one-on-one setup makes it a safe environment to learn and allows the sessions to fit the needs of the person in their unique role.

Jira & Agile Scrum Project Management

I helped a group move from individual task management to a scrum-based workflow. I coached the team through the boards, filters, workflows and automation basics. The group has a mandate from leadership to move to the scrum methodology and sprint-based workflows as part of an organization-wide transformation of their client delivery. It was fun to dig into the details of how this team works and to help them adjust to this framework through hands-on training sessions. The team went from skepticism to hopeful as they kicked off their first sprint.

The theme across all of these? Very capable and tech-focused teams that just needed outside expertise to get them further, faster.

I’m having a lot of fun with the teams and people I’m working with this year. The variety of operational and technical challenges they’ve brought has allowed me to utilize my expertise in new ways. I’m excited and ready for what’s coming my way in Q2.

If these projects or something similar sound interesting, grab some time on my calendar. I would love to help.
